You’d expect a company with the name of Litespeed Titanium to be masters of the lightweight material. And you’d be right. But that didn’t stop Litespeed from seeking out a way to build a lighter, higher performing, more durable frame. They claim that nothing was off the table, from 3D printing, to different assembly techniques.

What they found was… nothing. Nothing that would deliver a marked improvement on their existing strength-to-weight ratios, durability, or performance of their current proprietary processes. According to Litespeed, their tubing shaping and CNC machining of small titanium parts still reigns supreme.

“The Coll dels Reis really became a passion project for us,” said Litespeed’s Brad DeVaney. “We are constantly testing every titanium manufacturing method, even 3D printing. Interestingly, we found new technology and techniques didn’t always guarantee strength-to-weight improvements. With no room to compromise on weight, we carefully evaluated every piece of this bike for strength and function, and chose proprietary methods that we’ve developed over years to produce the lightest weights and most reliable results.”

But that didn’t stop them from taking their production to the next level. With their sights set on the title of the “world’s lightest production titanium road frame,” they set out to create their newest model – the Coll dels Reis. Named for the legendary climb in Mallorca, the Coll dels Reis is a climbing bike at heart, but still has clearance for 35mm tires.

Just how light is it? When built with a BSA threaded bottom bracket, Litespeed SL Ti dropouts, and an anodized head tube graphic, the frame comes in at 948g for a medium. According to the competitor numbers provided by Litespeed, the closest competition comes from the 1,180g Seven Cycles Axiom XX.

If you prefer a more modern build, you can add a T47i threaded bottom bracket and a UDH dropout which then tips the scales at 1,049g. Still plenty light. Heavier riders should take note, the Coll dels Reis does have an 85 kg/187 lb rider weight limit.

Complete bikes are outfitted with your choice of Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 or SRAM RED AXS, and ENVE SES 2.3, SES 4.5, or Zipp 353 NSW wheelsets. Builds are finished with an ENVE IN-Route cockpit and fork, and Chris King AeroSet headset and seatpost collar. Bikes start at $16,500, and Framesets start at $6,499. It will be available in 6 stock sizes—XS, S, M, ML, L, XL. Custom geometry is also available. Frames come finished in three new anodized colors, blue, bronze, and natural gold with custom finishes available as an additional option.

Love the compact look. Interested to hear about the torsional stiffness levels. I had a light Ti frame and it was too whippy to feel good (75kg rider) but it was slim mostly round tubes. This looks more ovalised in places.

I’ve felt that whippiness with steel and Ti; and a “climbing bike” is almost by nature meant to be wrenched back and forth under a ton of side-loaded stress. If the discs are scraping on every pedal stroke and you can’t tell where the last creak came from, the weight reduction wasn’t worth it.

I wonder how the durability of this frame compares to your average carbon frame of the same weight. It seems like shooting for super low weight with ti at the expense of durability is a misuse of the material; even though I’m a sub 150lb cyclist, I’m really turned off by weight limits. …and the price, but that’s a different issue.

It doesn’t compare. As a generality, carbon can be designed to have a near infinite fatigue life. Welded titanium assemblies, not so much. Especially when you’re Litespeed.

im 79kg and id like 125kg weight limit. 85kg feels like dropping lff a curb will break it and that it’ll be noodly.idk, they should show some hard core testing maybe.

As we’re referenced as the heavy weight on the included chart, it’s worth noting this isn’t an ‘apples to apples’ comparison.

Our Aurora utilizes an integrated seat tube, 86mm wide T47 BB, and a head tube designed for internal bearings. One would need to include the Litespeed’s seat post, the same BB shell, and the headset cups for an objective comparison.

The bike looks so much nicer that it has a regular headset than an internal bearing headset. That Chris King is the lipstick for that beautiful bike.

No need to stress as nobody in their right mind would compare Lightspeed to No. 22.

Good looking bike but definitely not cheap.

Unless they provide fatigue test data and lifetime warranty, don’t waste money on such a frame with questionable durability.

I have a Litespeed Ghisalo with a certified ( by Litespeed) of 836 grams. They built that in 2009.
