About a year and a half ago Bombtrack bikes stepped out of their fixie comfort zone and offered a steel framed cyclocross bike to broaden their horizons. In that time the original Hook cross bike outreached their expectations and everyone from their development team to their customers began to take the bike more and more off its intended track. So now Bombtrack has added two more bike to the Hook line. A new entry level steel bike steel bike becomes the 1, last year’s Hook carries over as the 2, and an all carbon Hook 3 makes its debut, with more shots and details across the fold…

The Hook 1 then becomes that affordable tough and dependable daily rider, or even a light touring ride. At its heart is a new straight gauge butted Japanese Sanko CroMoly tubeset, with a heat-treated front triangle, allowing thin tubes to keep the weight down. Oversized tubing, a big BB30 shell, and ovalized chainstays keep the frame strong and solid, while providing plenty of mud and tire clearance. Stable geometry is intended to give a calm demeanor for pretty much any kind of riding.

The Hook 1 gets a full carbon tapered-steerer fork and a SRAM Apex group with a compact 50/34T crank and an 11-32 cassette. Wheels are provided by Mavic via the capable Crossride wheelset, stopping with TRP Spyre mechanical discs.

The Hook 2 sticks with the same Columbus Cromor steel frame, and gets a full carbon tapered fork. Cables now get enclosed down the seatstays to keep mud out and deliver better shifting and braking. Like the 1, this bike has low profile rack and fender mounts for even more all-season flexibility.

A SRAM Rival 1×11 group puts the power down in its own simple and reliable way, no matter the terrain or conditions, and again pairs with mechanical Spyre discs. DT Swiss R23 wheels deliver an all-around light and stiff ride, and are tubeless-ready out of the box.

The highlight of the Hook’s second year is the new carbon Hook 3 with a brand new racier cyclocross racing geometry. What that means are shorter toptubes, higher bottom brackets, re-evaluated angles and fork trail numbers. The Hook 3 is race-ready out the door, with a full carbon frame and fork. It gets full internal routing for less mud build-up and easier shouldering.

The bike uses thru-axles front and rear, and gets spec’ed with the same DT R23 wheels. Drivetrain is covered by the same SRAM Force 1 group with hydraulic disc brakes hat the pros are racing this weekend at Worlds.
