Felt springs into the riding season with a couple of new crushers, the Surplus 30 and 70, both 27.5+ mountain bikes. Both are priced at the lower end of the segment, making them perfect traction monsters for those just getting into mountain bikes without alienating more experienced riders that need a mid-fattie for the stable.
Both get hydroformed alloy frames with Boost spacing, delivered with an extra dose of fun. Check out the dropper equipped Surplus 30 and the budget friendlier Surplus 70 just ahead…
Rob Pauley, Felt’s Mountain Bike Product Manager had this to say:
“The larger contact patch created by wider tires used on 27.5+ bikes offers greater traction, increased stability and extra cushioning over rough and rocky terrain. With the Surplus, we took our time creating a bike that capitalizes on the benefits of plus-sized tires. We avoided the pressure to be first to market and really concentrated on how the bike could perform better. The 27.5+ platform is a growing category and we are excited about the potential it offers. We have a feeling that the category will continue to grow. The Surplus is a welcome addition to our growing mountain bike line.”
The $2,199 Surplus 30 packs in the fun with a KS dropper, Rock Shox Reba, Race Face Aeffect cranks and a Shimano XT/Deore 1x drivetrain.
Easy on the wallet, the $1,399 Surplus 70 is no slouch with a SR Suntour Raidon 27.5+ fork and a Deore 2×10 drivetrain.
