Like the idea of lightweight silicone foam grips but got big mitts? Wolf Tooth Components has your back, er, hands with their new Fat Paw large diameter grips. Designed by WTC, they’re made in the USA by Red Monkey Sports, which has been producing extruded silicone grips for years.
The difference here is not just the thickness, though. Fat Paws use a dual density foam, putting a firmer layer on the inside and softer, tackier layer on the outside. This should provide great cushioning and support while drastically reducing vibrations. The wall thickness is 9.5mm, giving them an installed diameter of 36mm. Compare that to the 30mm diameter of Red Monkey’s Karv grips.
We’re guessing the intended users are those with big hands or ultra-distance mountain bikers that don’t like finishing with numbness in their palms, but they’d also be great for commuter bikes. Claimed weight is 110g, and they retail for $23.95. Available now online through both Wolf Tooth and Red Monkey, they’re launching in black only. More colors should come soon, and they should hit retail stores later in April.
