Last summer, ENVE added high volume options to their M60forty and M70thirty mountain bike wheels in response to riders’ desires for bigger tires. Now, with the “plus” sized movement in full swing, it looks like they needed something even bigger to accommodate the 2.8″ and wider tires hitting the market. The goal with both the original M-series, the HV widths and now this Plus version is to have appropriately matched tire size and rim width, which improves handling, ride characteristics and safety.
Our source suggests the official launch for these wheels isn’t until end of June and that some specs may change before that announcement, but we have some basics…
The info we received points toward a 480g rim weight, 40mm internal width and 49mm external width. Height is just 25mm, which should help maintain some radial compliance. That height reduction seems inline with the height changes between the standard M60 (32mm) and the M60 HV (28mm). Those rims measure 23mm and 26mm wide internally, though, so this new one makes a big jump.
Recommended tire sizes for the M60 Plus are 2.8 to 3.0, and it’s looking like it’ll be only available as a 27.5″ rim or complete wheels. Expect the usual DT Swiss and Chris King build options and a rim-only price around $975. More as we get it…
