Lumma’s approach to bicycle lighting combines several unique approaches to create a sleek illumination system that’s almost invisible…until it’s not.

By combining front and rear lights into the bicycle’s grips, they give you a broader light pattern up front and allow others to gauge your oncoming speed thanks to the perspective of seeing the lights grow wider as you approach. They also combine bright red lasers that point down to create a mini bike lane that helps define your space to motorists coming up from behind. All of it’s packaged in a lock-on grip using an aircraft grade alloy shaft with integrated, USB-rechargeable battery…

The built in batteries are good for about 50 hours of continuous use, which they say is worth up to six weeks of commutes. The USB charging port is external, covered by a rubber weather seal.

Two base anodized colors, dark gray or brushed, are available with several accent colors. Front lights remain white, rear and laser side markers remain red. Both front and rear can run at 100% solid or intermittent, and the front has an additional 70% solid output level. The output meets all international standards and requirements for bicycle lighting.

Grab an early bird special on their IndieGoGo campaign for as little as $43, more than half off the expected ~$100 MSRP.

Looks like you have to charge each grip independently, would have been much more convenient if they had an option to wire them together so charging could happen at either side. Like the concept.

Pretty awesome, but it would be better if the “bike lane” laser extended further out from the bike so cars actually gave you the proper 3 feet of distance. I’d be worried that cars would see the lines and feel more comfortable coming closer to your bars 🙁

Yep exactly. In several states of Australia now the minimum passing distance is 1m. It would be fantastic to set the distance to this so cars can see the distance they need to allow for. Also, if you have a camera, it will help with the evidence if they pass too close and you need to take it to the police 🙂

Wow, and here I thought there was nothing cooler than sharks with frickin’ lasers on their heads. This is clearly cooler. Wish there was a drop bar version.

More than one light company make a tail light that has the ability to project “bike lanes” on the ground below the rider.

Has anyone ever shown that the laser bike lane thing does anything to improve safety? It seems more likely to me that a driver is going to stare at the weird lines coming down from your bike trying to figure out what they are and drive right into you.

Of course I want to TUNE this thing with 3x Panasonic 3800Mah inside the steerer tube, brighter LED and transform this puppy into a bad dog.

You need flat bars for this product. Any drop bar development underway? Also, do you have to remove the grips all the the time to charge? Or get a really long USB cord from Amazon/Alibaba and run it from the wall?

Buy you can already buy a cheap laser bike light from ebay for $5. Lasers are not new.

I agree with the above poster. Seems more distracting than helpful to drivers. We are starting to train drivers nowadays to look for flashing red lights, as more and more of us are using tail lights, so I don’t know how helpful it is to start changing things up with lasers and what not.

I been trying to buy one but Amazon don’t have them then when I go to Lumma site they don’t sell them either just shows or tells me about other people who have them. Thought if they were that GOOD would be easier to find and buy them.
