With the advent of Boost spacing, it seems like it won’t be long until all trail 29ers are also compatible with plus. We’ve seen a number of big brands moving to the dual wheel size model, and now we’re seeing smaller operations going that route as well. One of the latest brands to follow suit is none other than Guerrilla Gravity. But what sets the GG Trail Pistol apart is not only the fact that it can adapt to the two wheel sizes without a different fork or headset, but it’s also built in their Denver, CO shop…
The secret to the Trail Pistol lies in their Crush or Plush flip chip. Rather than changing the suspension travel, the frame maintains the same 120mm of travel but the adjustment alters the BB height and head angle by a degree to make up for the slight difference in wheel size. Crush mode is meant for 29ers while Plush is naturally for Plus with a higher BB and 1 degree steeper head angle. It also makes the suspension a bit less progressive which GG says can be used for less aggressive riding with 29″ wheels. Suspension is provided through their proprietary Freedom Linkage which is their spin on a Horst Link design.
The frame offers other clever features like their NUTS (Necessities Under the Saddle) bracket which provides a mounting point for a velcro strap to keep flat essentials above the BB. No more electrical tape here, and it keeps the weight nice and low and off the dropper post. There is also room in the front triangle for a water bottle cage while still allowing for low standover .
Designed around 130mm travel forks, the Pistol can run 120-140mm up front. Offered in S-XL, a medium frame has a claimed weight of 6.5 lbs. (2,950g) with all hardware.
