  • Wall Street Journal says riders are tearing up le Tour’s unwritten rulebook – It seems that as a result of both a younger generation of pro cyclists coming up and the deeper penetration of cell phone cameras, on-board GoPros, and more TV coverage a lot of the unwritten gentleman’s agreements that have long ruled over the running of the Tour de France are going out the window. Where to Ride

  • Fort Saint John, BC’s Giv’r to the Riv’r DH race rescheduled for July 30 – After two weeks in a row getting postoned due to wet weather wreaking havoc on the trails the Giv’r to the Riv’r race is back on for a week from now. • Leadville mountain bike stage race July 29-31 – Coming up next weekend head up the mountains to Leadville to take in some trail stage racing at altitude. With the advent of the new Blueprint for Athletes Leadville MTB Stage Race, athletes who might not have the time to devote themselves fully to train for a 100-mile event can experience the iconic Leadville 100 MTB course over three days. Each day the 100-mile course is broken up into a 42-mile segment on day one, a 16-mile segment on day two and another 42-mile segment. Also after each stage there’s a fun party atmosphere with live music, great food and beer. The Leadville MTB Stage Race takes place this year, July 29-31, and is a great race for all-levels of athletes to participate – from the beginner looking to experience what a mountain bike race is all about to the seasoned athlete looking to train for and qualify for the Leadville 100 or push their limits at a shorter distance course. LeadvilleRaceSeries.com

Advocacy

  • Wasatch Canyons Foundation & Save A Spot launch new conservation program – Up in Utah’s world famous Cottonwood Canyons ski destination, leaders from the Wasatch Canyons & Save A Spot opened up a crowdfunding campaign to buy and preserve private land in the Wasatches. For $25 you can help buy 300 sqft of old mining claims land and lock it into permanent conservation. With each spot saved, supporters get the GPS coordinates of the plot on a certificate so you can go enjoy the land you helped save. SaveaSpot.org
  • Save more land from mining in Wyoming with the Bureau of Land Management – The Mining Law of 1872 still lets you stake a claim on BLM land in WY, even if it would disrupt local mountain biking trails, unless the land has been specifically protected. The BLM wants to set aside land like that around the popular Johnny Behind the Rocks trail netwoek, but they need local support. Read more about it over at: WYOfile.com
