The Stages Cycling power meters have always worked very well with other head units, but to take their training system to the next level it was time for something new. Enter the Stages Dash GPS head unit – a completely customizable system that is designed to work with both the Stages powermeters as well as the Stages Link training system. Shown at Eurobike in prototype form, the Dash has a few interesting features that should help it break away from the pack…
According to Stages, the Dash is the first head unit that quickly adapts from portrait to landscape mode which provides a number of options for mounting. More impressive though is the huge range of customizable cells to display as little or as much data as you’d like in 1-16 different fields. Each cell is then also customizable in size so you can have more important numbers like power, show up larger than other numbers like time. You can also tune the display so that half of the screen always stays the same while the other half of the screen scrolls through various metrics. Essentially, you can set it up exactly how you want it and you can even change it on the fly while out on a ride.
Using a different mounting system than most computers, the Dash uses aluminum mounts that clips onto the top or the side of the head unit. The various mounts were still mostly 3D printed prototypes at the show, but they will have options for road bike center mounts, mountain bikes, TT bikes, and more.
Built with a claimed 30 hour battery life and micro USB rechargeable, the head unit will be both Bluetooth and ANT+ compatible and should sell for $399 in the first quarter of 2017.
