Diamondback has recruited Bill Nye, The Science Guy, to be their explainer for all things bicycle in a new video series. The shorts are aimed at those just getting into, or thinking about getting into, cycling. Video one is shown above and starts out with the basics – how to pick the right type of bicycle for you. The next seven videos cover topics like rider etiquette, essential gear every cycling should carry, how to brake, the pre-ride checklist and so on. Check ’em all out at Diamondback.com.
How do we get more people into cycling? Well Bill Nye the science guy of course. What a great way to market DB bikes in a fun informative way to new comers. Good job DB/Accell Group. Would love to see the industry become more welcoming to new cyclists. Yes, this means welcoming riders who might ride bikes the majority of us would do not ride (ex: electric, comfort, recumbents, performance road trike, cargo, etc…). Let’s be more welcoming to the idea of growing the bicycle industry traditional and non-traditional ways.
Well said Von! If all the large companies put out similarly tasteful, but naturally diverse infomercials for ‘bike riding’ it would go a lot further for this great activity/sport/industry than sponsoring Froome or Sagan or Nino etc . The only cyclists that give a shit about the hundreds of millions spent on racing are racers and hard core riders, and we would buy the kit we want with or without race sponsorship right? OK, maybe not, the sheep gotta be herded. But, more people being led to bikes by advertainment like this is all good. Think about the ‘Got Milk’ program, not brand centric, just promoting milk. ‘Ride Today’?
