Over the past couple trade shows, Panaracer has shown prototypes of several new tires for gravel along with a brown (skinwall) casing option for the standard GravelKing. Now, they’ve finally put several of them into production, offering similar tread patterns for the new GravelKing Mud (left) and RegaCross cyclocross tire. The differences between the two are in the casings, with the ‘cross version being tubeless ready.
The RegaCross comes in 33mm and 35mm widths with weights of 360g and 410g, respectively. They have a folding bead with Panaracer’s AX-Alpha material in the casing, which is a tightly woven, fine gauge material that remains very flexible while deflecting cuts and scrapes. The GravelKing Mud gets the same two sizes, meaning it’ll basically work as a tube-type cyclocross tire, too, and comes in black and brown sidewall options. Weights are 300g and 360g. It uses the same tread compound and AX-Alpha material with the addition of their anti-snakebite/flat protection layer. The tread design takes a little different approach to mud, using longer knobs that should help with lateral grip and flinging mud loose in a straight line, but without the usual paddle shapes or spiky knobs found on some other mud designs.
