First it was the high end Zephyr at Eurobike, then the mid-level Stratus at Interbike. Now, rounding out their line of new MIPS-equipped road bike helmets is the $100 Overdrive. The Overdrive model has been in their line for a couple years, but now you’ve got a MIPS option to reduce the likelihood of rotational impact injuries. Details, colors and more below…

The Overdrive MIPS comes in five colors – the red, black and blue with a matte finish, and the gloss “Retina Sear” hi-vis yellow and white/silver (not shown). The helmet gets most of Bell’s safety and fit tech, including the Float Fit system, internal caging to keep it together upon impact, an in-molded polycarbonate shell and lightweight straps. Overbrow ventilation helps pull air off your forehead and up into and through the helmet.

Claimed weight is 305g, it has 19 vents and meets CE and CPSC safety requirements. From the looks of it, this replaces the prior version entirely, meaning the Overdrive is now only available with MIPS. Available in January 2017.

I’m all for bringing the costs of helmets down. there was no reason why mips should cost so much.

Most companies like to see a return on all the money they spend on their R&D.

Is this helmet like the new Sweep? That Sweep helmet was by far my favorite of all the ones I’ve owned. If this is similar I may get one.
