The new DMT R1 Summer is built the same as the R1, but gets new microfiber and mesh materials on the upper to make it lighter and more breathable. They keep the same full carbon sole with front air vent. They’re 100% made in DMT’s own factory in Bosnia, where about 2,000 people are employed to do that and other shoes…like Nike’s soccer shoes, plus other carbon pieces for McLaren, Ducati, Lamborghini and more (in a separate division of the building).
Three lighter mesh panels are on the inside of the shoe, with a less perforated material on the outer face. The heel cup is shaped to keep your foot firmly in place once the dual BOA IP1 dials are ratcheted down. Inside is a sock-like lining with strategic padding for a more comfortable feel.
The outsole is full carbon with shaping to make it very stiff. Standard three bolt and Speedplay bolt patterns are available.
The tongue has a Velcro tab to keep it from sliding off to the side, which is a much appreciated feature.
Shown in black is the standard RS1 with its less perforated microfiber upper. The R1 Summer has a $339.90 retail, available in all white early February; orange and yellow are available now. Sizes from 37 to 47 EU.
