Polar has just announced updates for its premier M600 smart watch adding compatibility with Android’s newest forthcoming Android Wear 2.0. The latest Android Wear update gives BOTH Android and iOS users access to the Google Play store via the Polar watch so that they can download and activate Android apps directly onto the M600 without having to go through their phones. There are several other new features like improved battery life, swim functions and more. Check the details after the jump…
Besides direct Google Play access, Android Wear 2.0 also builds Google Assistant directly into devices like the M600. With the new update users will be able to customize their watch faces, get calendar notifications, read & reply to texts, scroll through social media feeds, and access a larger number of new apps via Google Play, all directly from the watch. The update isn’t available yet, but has just been announced coinciding with the Android announcement, as reinforcement of the future-proof nature of the $330/350€ smart sports watch. Polar M600 users will however get access to the new features later this spring.
A big side benefit of the software update is improved battery performance. The Polar M600 battery life is now said to run for 36 hours. Multi-sport M600 users also get new metrics for tracking indoor swimming activity, including distance, pace, strokes per minute, and strokes per length. The swim tracking will even sort whether you are swimming freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, or butterfly.
