With a whopping 18 mounting points for everything from bottle cages to bags to racks and more, the new Niner SIR9 hardtail is back and better than ever. As one of their original models, Niner’s been getting a lot of questions about when it’d make a return. But they took their time because things were changing. The way we use our bikes is changing. So they wanted it to be able to handle anything you might want to do. Compared to the original, it retains the Reynolds 853 heat treated, air hardened, butted tubing, but the details are all new…

Like the new JET9 and RIP9, the new SIR9 has Boost axle spacing and is designed to run 29er or 27.5+ mountain bike wheels and tires. Geometry is designed around a 120mm fork, and with a modern tapered headtube, you could run any model you want.

Rack, fender, bag and Bento box mounts are all over the bike, so you can add anything you want. All cable routing is external, with a dropper post cable port on the seat tube to bring that one inside for stealth models.

The chainstay yoke was formed in top- and bottom halves, then welded together sandwiching another steel plate to improve rigidity. This design let them keep the overall shape as thin as possible without compromising tire clearance or the ability to fit a double (or even triple) chainring. The pressfit BB offers options, including their own eccentric BB for singlespeed builds.

They also offer geared and non-geared rear axle inserts, keeping singlespeed builds super clean.

At the top of the range is the 5-Star build with SRAM X01 Eagle for $6,000 built with Niner’s carbon XC wheels in 29er. Shown below that, it’s also available with Stan’t NoTubes Neo ZTR Arch wheels in 29er and 27.5+ for $5,000. Complete bikes start at $3,000 with an SLX 2-Star build. It’s also available as a frameset for $1,200.(UPDATE: That green/black colorbwe had posted originally was a sample color only, not a production option). They start shipping now.

“The way we use our bikes are changing”. Besides riding them on the road and off road?

PressFit… Pass

They are doing it with all of their bikes now. It is the only reason I am passing on their gravel bike. I need to be able to service a BB easily, especially if it will be a gravel/winter trainer bike.

Press fit is disappointing. Did they use it because of some bb shell width need to make boost work?

Probably just for the ability to run a eccentric bb for single speed builds.

No, threaded/BSA bottom brackets work just fine with Boost. Niner did it because of their wonky eccentric BB or just because PF shells are cheaper to manufacture. Fortunately, there are many other bike companies making steel hardtails that understand the evils of PF BB’s and make threaded alternatives (Surly, Transition, Canfield, etc.).

PF only sucked because the sram BBs are junk. With a well made BB from wheels MFG, King, BB Infinate, Enduro, etc they work just fine. I would rather have the PF so I have the SS option as well. I cant stand sliders, they are always coming loose and creaking. My niner EBBs rarely need attention.

Since it is steel would you be able to have the BB tapped for the T47?

No because they go out of tolerance after a couple removal / installs. Try waiting a 1.5 months to get a replacement frame if they don’t blame it on misuse….

Its not a press fit, its their EBB, which you can use a threaded BB eccentric insert.

Pressfit and 142 back are ancient. Pass. Let us see ros plus with bsa bb

If it’s like the previous SIR9, the BB shell is oversized to accept their eccentric adapter for singlespeed. For a geared drivetrain, concentric adapters press in, and then you can use a threaded BB. That’s how mine works and I’ve had no trouble with it.

I’m interested, but shame the blue does not match the new carbon fork they offer.

Their eccentric bottom bracket has worked very well on my RLT 9, which is also 853 steel. Land Run, Dirty Kanza are horrible conditions, and made me replace bearings, but the Niner EBB continues to perform perfectly with no slipping or noise. I really dislike pressfit, but after my experience I’d have no hesitation buying one of these frames. Niner does it right.

Great. Now can you please make it from a proper frame material – Aluminum? It’ll be cheaper, lighter, less flexy, and won’t rust.
