Heller Barghest 130mm 275+ carbon full-suspension enduro trail all-mountain bike rock drop

QBP’s Heller Bikes keeps filling out their trail bike line-up, now going beyond the 27.5+ & fat bike hardtails we’ve seen over the past couple of years. The new Heller Barghest is the brand’s first full-suspension bike, pairing the same plus-sized tires & carbon construction of the Shagamaw with 130mm of four bar suspension to yield a bike capable of attacking almost any trail ride. Heller says the Barghest started with a modern long & slack trail geometry and grew into a carbon full suspension bike begging for longer travel forks to shred their favorite trails….

The 130mm Horst link Barghest gets paired with 140mm Manitou Machete Comp fork up front via a 68.5° head angle, but is also happy to run a 150mm fork for an even more aggressive build. The plush feel of the classic four-bar suspension design – what Heller calls “simple, trail-proven No-Fuss-Sus” – on top of the rough terrain-eating & super forgiving 2.8″ Maxxis Rekon tires makes the Barghest a much more capable trail bike than anything Heller has built yet.

The $3000 Barghest still manages to be a relatively light and easy to maneuver bike. With a full carbon frame, affordable SRAM NX 1×11 drivetrain, tubeless-ready wheel/tire paring, TranzX dropper seatpost & aluminum components, the complete Barghest claims a weight of 14.54kg/32.05lb.

The Barghest frame gets Boost spacing, internal routing, and a stealth dropper.

It comes in any color you like as long as it’s black, and in five frame sizes to fit a wide range of small to tall riders.

Heller says that “everyone deserves a high-performing mountain bike”, and the idea for the Barghest was to deliver a carbon bike & a killer ride at a price that is hard to beat. Distributed through QBP, you can get ahold of a new Barghest through pretty much any independent bike shop, with availability anticipated at your local shop in the next week or two.

68.5 degree head angle with 140mm fork? That is not slack by todays geometry “stantards”.

Looks like a pretty good bike for the money. I just wonder if it could’ve been even cheaper if they used aluminum instead of carbon. But then, given the current MTB market I suppose if it ain’t plastic nobody wants it. Even if it weighs the same or more.

(I’m always out of sync with the trends. I like the “new” geometry, dropper posts, etc. but I’d go 29er aluminum if I were buying a new full suspension rig. Guerrilla Gravity would be getting my money if I had any.)

Chinese carbon catalog bike… Can’t get cheaper than that. You’ll be seeing this frame under alot of brands.

Hellers entire concept is using open source frames. They offer a longer term warranty than buying directly from the source. This is something they do not hide from consumers, in fact they are quite transparent about using open source molds.

Heller acknowledged that this is the same front triangle, but it uses a different rear end.

The rear triangle look identical. The rocker is the only significantly different thing I see.

The rocker would make a significant difference in the suspension, but there isn’t much argument that the front triangle is COTS.

Looks steeper than 68.5.. more like the 73.9 they list for the small and medium sizes…
