Within Specialized’s 2FO family, they’ve developed two new models. They worked with The Coastal Crew to develop the flat pedal shoes, and actually used pressure mapping hardware and software worn by the rider to test upper and midsole construction, rubber compounds and shapes, and more. This let them analyze what’s happening under the foot with real data and numbers rather than relying on vague feedback. Over 18 months, they tested around 20 different pairs. The result is the 2FO 2.0 and 2FO 1.0 flat mountain bike shoes…
On both models, the rubber outsole pattern and shaping is designed to mechanically grip the pedals as you weight the shoes on them in a riding position. The lug pattern is shaped specifically to work with pinned pedals. They also updated the SlipNot 2.0 rubber, making it softer and grippier than ever before.
The uppers were redesigned to be cushier and more streamlined. That means they’re more comfortable, and less likely to snag on anything. The tongue is padded and vented, and holes and mesh sections help them drain better, which is key for UK riders. The 2.0 offer more protection and is aimed at more aggressive enduro and downhill riders. Available in sizes 38-49 with plenty of half sizes in between. Claimed weight is 347g per shoe for size 42. Retail is $150.
The 1.0 gets the same outsole and tread pattern, but a revised upper to bring the price down to $110. It gets a little less protection, aimed more at the Trail market. But, check out that sweet neoprene cuff to keep debris out…
It, too, features the SlipNot 2.o rubber and padded upper and tongue. Both models get a lace lock strap to hold them away from the cranks. Claimed weight for the 1.0 is 315g for size 42. The 2FO 1.0 also comes in a women’s specific sizing from 36 to 43, shown here in the black with teal laces and trim.
