Alpitude is a new premium component company handcrafting ultralight carbon components in the heart of the Dolomites. An off-shoot of custom carbon frame shop Werking cycles, framebuilder Andrea Sega needed an outlet to turn his lightweight carbon component concepts into reality. The first couple products offered were the same machined chain catcher & light carbon cages that he had already made under the Werking brand, but now a new face-plate mounted out-front style cycling computer mount joins as a completely new design. Alpitude gives Sega the opportunity to further develop & refine his products like this new GPS mount in small handmade production batches.
Stelvio carbon out-front GPS mount
The new Stelvio out-front mount is an evolution of a previous iteration that used a regular band clamp around the bar. Instead this new model is more minimal & lightweight – just 15g with all hardware – mounting directly to a standard M5 stem faceplate bolt. It uses a hollow lightweight carbon arm bonded to a carbon disc that can accept interchangeable Garmin or Polar style interfaces.
Sega designed the Stelvio to work with forward facing, 4-bolt stems with bolt spacing between 22-35mm. The small aluminum bracket at the stem then allows perfect alignment with the stem. (Another version is also in the works for stems with more closely spaced bolts, ie. 3T & Zipp.) The mount comes in two lengths – 76mm overall for small format devices like a Garmin Edge 520 or 88mm for longer for the Polar V650/Edge 1030.
The Stelvio is available now for preorder for 86€ including VAT (or ~70€ w/o tax) and includes the mount, plus the required 35mm titanium stem bolt & spacer that sits it away from the face plate. Alpitude slated delivery for the middle of October 2017. A version integrating a GoPro mount is also in development.
Ultra minimal carbon water bottle cage
The Ultra Bottlecage is another interesting one from Alpitude, which coincidentally weighs just 15g a piece as well. Alpitude lays up each lightweight carbon cage one at a time, before molding them into the final shape. It’s classic tubular design shouldn’t look out of place on either modern carbon of classic metal bikes. The Ultra cage is also available for pre-order now with mid-Oct 2017 delivery. The sell for 66€ a piece (~56€ w/o VAT), or for 12€ more include a pair of ti bolts.
