The latest premium carbon road race bike from Czech custom frame maker Festka is the lightweight Scalatore. And in honor of the 101st edition of the Giro d’Italia, Festka is offering a limited edition of their bike – only available to buy during the race.

Festka Scalatore Giro Edition custom carbon road bike

The limited Scalatore Giro Edition went on sale last Friday with the Giro’s depart. And it will remain on offer until the last stage on May 27. The Scalatore is Festka’s top carbon rim brake road bike, and was developed to be optimized for lightweight & stiffness. It uses a special Czech-made woven carbon tubeset that they developed together with tubing partner CompoTech specifically for bicycle construction – truly unique in the industry. The result is a tube-to-tube style construction that can match the top monocoque designs in both weight and durability.

At the same time it opens up more possibilities to tune stiffness & performance to individual rider needs. And is also allows Festka to offer both custom geometry, and tubing tailored even down to individual rider weight or power output.

The carbon Scalatore is light at a claimed 740g, and features a 44mm headtube for a tapered steerer and a PressFit bottom bracket. The rim brake frame has 130mm rear spacing, carbon QR dropouts, and a replaceable aluminum derailleur hanger. With light weight as a priority, the frame and fork will clear just a real 25mm wide tire, which Festka says actually limits the bike to 23c tire on most modern wider rims.

If you need bigger tires, or even disc brakes, you can always go to their core One carbon road bikes which use a similar construction, but get more options.

Giro Edition Design

Festka started the design for the Scalatore Giro Edition with that bright shade of pink to give the frame an appropriately Giro base coat. Then on top of that it gets a number of subtle details throughout including dynamic white stripes inside the fork legs, four colors of stripes – for each of the classification jerseys – on the color matched stem, and the chainstay motto of Amore Infinito.

Pricing & Availability

Festka this year started to offer their bikes in three levels of finish depending on what level of customization the buyer was looking for. Core offered a base level of five current color combinations with their basic design scheme. Edition stepped up for an extra 1000€ to one of Festka’s more labor-intensive designs like Dazzle or Pablo. And Prime was offered for someone who wanted limitless design possibilities where price wasn’t really a concern.

The good news is this Giro Edition of the Scalatore is actually being offered at the standard base pricing scheme – good news for your wallet since this is already an ultra-premium frame. That means the Scalatore frameset itself sell for 6000€ with a painted to match 3T Rigida LTD fork & matching stem. If you want to get an integrated seat mast, that will all another 400€.

And yes, that’s for a frame & fork. You’re gonna need a full build kit to ride it. Festka’s own preferred set up for the Scalatore Giro Edition will cost you a whopping 13,920€ total. What that will get you is a Sram Red eTap groupset, a set of Lightweight Gipfelsturm wheels, Cane Creek ee brakes, a Selle Italia SLR C59 saddle, and a much lighter wallet. That’ll also have you substantially under the UCI limit, so you’ll have to weight it down to race it.

The Scalatore Giro Edition comes in twenty four stock sizes with both race and more relaxed sport geometry in one centimeter sizing increments from 50-61cm. Or of course there is always the option for fully custom geometry if needed for 300€ more, since every bike is made-to-order. If you want the Giro Edition, don’t wait. You will need to get in touch with Festka directly before the end of the Giro d’Italia to reserve yours.
