Pirelli is a relative newcomer to the world of cycling, but they’re no stranger when it comes to racing. As the official tire sponsor of Formula One, what better place to announce their latest partnership than the track of an upcoming Grand Prix? Even better – the announcement that Mitchelton-Scott will partner with Pirelli for their tires took place during qualification of the Grand Prix de France, just before the start of the Tour de France.

Why does this matter to you, dear reader? Well, if you’ll remember back in April, Pirelli announced their first cycling tubular PZero tires that Aqua Blue was racing. Those tires were 28mm and pro-only. But now that Mitchelton-Scott is racing on Pirelli tubulars as well, it likely means that Pirelli is close to launching a consumer version in the future. We’re assuming that the team won’t be racing the tour on a 28mm tire which means this will likely include a 23mm or 25mm tubie, though you never know. Not a fan of tubulars? Pirelli also has a number of tubeless ready tires in the works as well.

Totally off topic but why on earth haven’t Pirelli gone with their traditional logo for their bike tires? As someone who has an unhealthy addition to typography I always loved that logo.
