In terms of helmet trends that we’ve seen lately, the lightweight full face seems like something we’ll be seeing more of. Instead of the convertible helmets with removable chin bars, companies seem to be focusing on ultra light, ultra breathable full face helmets instead. And if the sample we saw at Eurobike is any indication, the new Troy Lee Designs Stage will be one of the lightest available.

When it comes to full face helmets, it doesn’t get much more light and airy than this. The Stage is feather light and has a huge number of vents to keep the air flow moving.

Inside, you’ll find at least one version with a MIPS liner which sits between the shell and the full pad set. While full details aren’t yet available, the helmet doesn’t seem to have an adjustment system meaning it will probably size with different pad sets to get the perfect fit.

In spite of the break in the outer shell that makes it look like it might have a removable chin bar, the samples shown at Eurobike were one solid piece.

Other details include a multi-density foam liner, adjustable visor, and a fidlock buckle.

Granted, the helmet in the MIPS booth was a sample, but on the scale it came in at an insane 678g for a size medium. We wouldn’t be surprised to see the production versions pack on a little weight, but still – this will be one crazy light full face helmet. TLD says the helmet will be coming this August, so stay tuned for the full launch.

Old saying from my motorcycle raodaraing days. “If you have a $100 head, wear a $100 helmet”. I wore $1000 helmets………….that saved my life on numerous occasions.
