Unpaved, gravel, offroad, all-road, adventure riding – whatever you call it, this type of riding is getting extremely popular. Enough so, that if a bike brand doesn’t have a bike for it yet, they will soon. Now, German brand Rose is getting in on the unpaved action with their latest addition, the Backroad.

Meant “to ride everywhere a classic road bike would have its difficulties,” the Backroad has the typical features that make all-road bikes more capable. The bikes will ship with 700c x 38mm tires though there is room for up to 42mm. In a nod to the frame’s versatility, there’s also a Backroad Cross option which will come speced with 700c x 33mm Schwalbe X-ONE Evo bit tires instead of the the G-One Allround Evo tires on the standard Backroad.

The carbon frame checks in at 1040g with internal cable touring, flat mount disc brakes, thru axles, and the Rose RC-170 Flex carbon seatpost for taming the ride.

Offered in the Backroad or Backroad Cross, both have the same geometry though the Cross will likely have a slightly lower BB height given the height of the smaller tires. Five sizes will be offered from 51 to 62cm.

Along with the standard or Cross build, both models will be available in a number of specs with both 2×11 and 1×11 drivetrains and a Di2 option is there as well. Each is available in both colors, and pricing starts at €2249 for the Backroad 105.

When can I buy those tires in the US of A?

that 2249 includes VAT, so in the US it’s 19% less than that. Almost suspiciously low prices, plus you can customize things like crank length, bar width and gearing – not common among direct sale companies and especially not at these prices.

I’m impressed

“For deliveries outside the EU the German VAT (19%) that is still containing in the price will be deducted as soon as your order is in processing.”

So for a buyer in the US, the price is ((price_on_website x 81%) + €250.00) x 1.16 USD/€
