Within the city limits, New York City is fairly flat. But in the future? Well, in the future there will be KOMs paved in glass. At least, that’s how the creative minds at Zwift see the city evolving in 2118. In an effort to further gamify your training and distract you from the fixed position of your indoor trainer, Zwift has launched their latest expansion world, New York City.
While there will be a number of exciting new additions, there should also be plenty of recognizable landmarks for anyone who has visited the famous city. From Central Park to the Guggenheim, the Met, El Dorado Hotel, and Tavern on the Green, Future New York is not devoid of its current institutions.
It does however include futuristic suspended glass roads which will make the world more challenging and give you far more climbing opportunities. Zwift says the world has been inspired by many of the video games their development team loved in the 90’s. It also helped that Zwift’s co-Founder and CEO Eric Min, along with Zwift’s Mike McCarthy and Charlie Issendorf grew up racing in Central Park during the 80’s.
The update should be live now, so boot up those devices and take a spin around an all new world. Zwift will be hosting a virtual Tour of New York starting October 23rd, with a five stage event to show off the new world. Finish all five stages, and as usual, you’ll unlock an exclusive in-game kit.
