UK sneaker retailer size? has brought together Adidas and Colnago for a collaboration project to celebrate their common roots in innovation & design. Together they have produced a limited edition collection of classic Adidas Trimm Star and more modern Adidas Kamanda shoes that tie in design touches from classic & modern Colnago road bikes.

Shoemaker Adidas & bikemaker Colnago might not immediately come to mind as analogues, but both companies share similar, humble origin stories. Both founded in the heart of Europe post-war  – Adolf Dassler created Adidas in 1949 by making shoes in his mother’s laundry room in Herzogenaurach, Germany; at the same time a young Ernesto Colnago was welding frames in a Milan, Italy bike factory after lying about his age to get a job, before setting out on his own by 1954. Size? comes in as they have built a name up as a UK sneakerhead shop who also dig classy Italian bikes.

The resulting collaboration pairs a modern Kamanda with modern Colnago carbon inspiration and the more classic Trimm Star with shiny Colnago red detailing. Both limited  edition shoes are hand-made in Italian leather, and feature an Italian tricolore & Colnago branding.

Introduced first in 1985, this £90 white Colnago Trimm Star gets a recycled rubber sole, meant to remind us of old gum wall tires, plus glossy metallic red stripes that harken back to the bike Giuseppe Saronni rode for the 1982 world championship win.

  1. Adidas should make cycling shoes again. Had both road and mtn pairs in the late 90’s and they were some of the very best.

  2. Like K-Pop, I have had Adidas road and Mtb shoes. Please make them again. Back in the 70’s I had a pair of Adidas with a brownish red metallic stripes but forget the name as I always were loyal to their Rom’s.
