For 2019 Bergamont bikes has unveiled a new carbon trail bike – the 130mm Contrail Carbon which evolves last year’s alloy introduction into a more capable all-rounder. With longer & slacker geometry, the same flip chips, and now integrated tool storage, the Contrail Carbon is ready for anything you can throw at it.
For riders looking to push harder and go bigger, Bergamont also have a new longer travel alloy all-mountain bike, the 160mm Trailster Aluminum packing an integrated Stashbox too.
2019 Bergamont Contrail Carbon 130mm trail mountain bike
Bergamont had already built a solid trail bike splitting the difference between XC & Enduro with last year’s Contrail debut. But a year on, they realized they could tune the universal trail riding platform to be more capable for technical and adventure riding with a few tweaks.
Contrail Carbon Geometry Updates
Using the same 130mm of faux-bar linkage driven single pivot Boost-spaced suspension, Bergamont updated the front end of the bike with a bit of all-mountain geometry inspiration. A half degree slacker head tube and almost an extra centimeter of reach and the new 29er carbon bike gets a slightly more aggressive stance.
The carbon bike does carry over the same no compromise flip chips though, which let riders who prefer opt for 27.5+ wheels instead. Flip the chip & swap the lower headset bearing cup and you keep the same geometry for the bike with either wheelsize, not compromising head angle or BB drop.
Contrail Carbon Tech Details
With the new hi-mod carbon frame comes a new pocket under the lower shock mount, and space to stash some tools. Bergamont’s new Stashbox comes already stocked with a compact tool setup featuring a mini ratchet and kit of bits (2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 8mm hexes + T25 torx) clipped into the box’s locking cover. Then there is room for a spare tube or some other similarly sized essentials.
Bergamont says the new carbon bike drops front derailleur compatibility in favor of 1x only drivetrains, but it looks to still include Sideswing routing and is described as Di2 ready (with most Shimano electronic setups still include two chainrings.)
The Contrail Carbon features internal routing through the the main triangle, with everything exiting in front of the press fit BB92 bottom bracket (and the dropper cable re-entering in the back of the seattube).
2019 Bergamont Contrail Carbon Spec & Pricing
The new carbon trail bike is available in two separate complete builds sharing the new frame. The 2019 Bergamont Contrail Ultra sells for 6000€ with a SRAM X01 Eagle drivetrain & carbon cranks, a RockShox Pike RCT fork & Fox Float shock, plus Level TLM brakes, a Manitou Jack dropper post & DT Swiss XM1501 wheels for a 12.4kg claimed weight.
The 2019 Bergamont Contrail Elite goes for 4000€ swapping in GX Eagle, a Fox 32 fork, Level TL brakes & Syncros Revelstoke wheels. The alloy Contrails carry over for 2000-3000€.
2019 Bergamont Trailster Aluminum 160mm all-mountain bike
Looking for a bit more bike, the Trailster Aluminum gets more travel for 2019, bumping up to 160mm front & rear for the all-new 29er all-mountain bike. A first for Bergamont, the new bike gets a proper Horst link four-bar suspension for a more responsive ride, separating braking & pedaling forces from suspension action.
The new 6061 alloy bike shares similar looks and tech in the main triangle as the Contrail, also sporting the new Stashbox integrated tool & spares storage.
It also gets flip chips and the swappable lower headset cups to allow for a no compromise swap between 29″ and 27.5+ wheel/tire setups.
Three builds of the Trailster are available as light as 14.2kg: the 4000€ Trailster 10, 3000€ Trailster 8 & 2700€ Trailster 6.
