Mountain bike maker YT Industries has just added a carbon 29er downhill bike to the mix with the new TUES 29 CF. Already one of the fastest DH bikes on the World Cup circuit under ex-rider Aaron Gwin, YT is looking to put plenty on Young Talent racing the new bike this season with their YT Mob team, led by Angel Suarez.
2019 YT TUES 29 CF carbon 29″ DH mountain bike
The new consumer-direct Tues 29 was developed with the YT Mob to transition the performance and success of the 27.5″ bike to bigger wheels, offering riders the choice of the perfect gravity race weapon.
While the smaller-wheeled bike could handle a technical World Cup DH track or something a bit less conventional like a RedBull Rampage, the new 29er is no all-rounder. Instead the big bike focuses only on downhill racing, and YT now calls the Tues 29 the fastest bike in their range.
Besides the bigger wheels that deliver stability at high speed, the suspension kinematics of the Tues 29 were developed to be more progressive than the Tues 27. And with the move to bigger wheels, the Tues 29 is longer overall as well, lending further stability.
Tues 29 CF race DH geometry
The new carbon Tues 29 CF comes in three frames sizes – regular, long & extra-long, and is meant for riders 167cm/5’6″ and taller. Smaller riders are suggested to stick to the Tues 27, not to compromise geometry & handling. The new, bigger Tues gets revised geometry with more bottom bracket drop for a low center of gravity, and slightly longer chainstays. The Tues 29 keeps the same slack 63.5° head angle of the smaller bike, now with even longer frame reaches.
Tues 29 CF tech details
The new 29er frame keeps the same V4L Horst-link four bar suspension design for 203mm of rear wheel travel.
An increase in stiffness comes from the full carbon hi-mod frame construction, with a new 29er specific layup.
The Tues 29 CF offers pretty much the same technical features as the smaller carbon Tues 27 CF did, including a 12x150mm rear thru-axle, carbon headset bearing seats, double sealed bearings, fully internal cable routing, ISCG tabs, one-sided pivot hardware, anti-chain suck plates, plus bolt-on downtube, molded seat & chainstay protection.
Tues 29 CF availability & pricing
The new 29er Tues comes is available now in two complete bike builds, each with two different color options – Pro Race & Pro. The top-tier Tues 29 CF Pro Race retails for $5800 / 5500€ with Kashima-coated supposition care of a 203mm Fox 40 Factory fork & Fox Float X2 Factory rear shock, both featuring high & low-speed compression & rebound controls to dial in race-ready performance. Drivetrain is YT’s signature e*thirteen cassette paired to a SRAM X01 DH 7-speed derailleur, plus TRP G-spec brakes, Renthal cockpit, and e13 carbon wheels & cranks for a race-ready weight of 15.4kg.
The $4200 / 4000€ Tues 29 CF Pro opts for Performance Elite spec for the air Fox 40 fork & X2 shock. Drivetrain is the same, swapping in a GX DH 7-speed derailleur, the same G-spec brakes, plus e*thirteen LG1+ cranks & wheels for a 15.2kg claimed weight.
Both bikes (and the carbon or alloy 27.5″ options) are available direct from YT now, as they call it “27.5 or 29: TUES your way“. Pick 29″ for winning DH races, 27.5” for more versatility and maneuverability that can serve lift runs in the bike park too.
