Photo submitted by Tony Brand, “I finally finished my “new to me” bike that I got from my father in law. 1993 Specialized Stumpjumper FS that I got from my father in law and I spruced it up with a set of Sweet Wings given to me by the father of the DH bike Jeff Steber (founder of Intense Cycles). The master Gordon of Velo Hanger worked his magic for NLA spacers to make the cranks work.

Stock bar/stem (original seatpost/saddle broke over 15 years ago when it was hung up).”

That’s what I love about bikes – You can mix 30yo frame and fork with 2019 components and the whole thing works like a charm.

The Sweetwings cranks are actually the OG version made by Craig Edwards (he sent me a care package of parts to bring these back to life. He worked with Cane Creek to launch the current eeWings (titanium cranks…which I also have on my gravel bike and MTB).

Sweet Wings, wow! Really needs a period seatpost and saddle, can’t be that hard to find something on eBay.

I’d agree. But as Mr. Armstrong mentioned the two replacements are modern interpretations of parts from that period…I also didn’t want to leave my family jewels in the hands of an old saddle.

I rode just about that same bike, in that same year. Broke my collar bone about 200 yards in…did not touch another MTN bike for years and years and year.

Duder, that Thomson is period. Looks like a Tioga spider saddle too, also period. I especially love the Braids composite bar ends! Had those beauties on my 95 Trek Y-11 (the worst URT design ever made).
Nice Work Tony!! I wish I could ride that old Trek! Enjoy

Well done! I wish I had that bike you really did it right. Those sweetwings are some sweet wings and really set it off for a neat 90s build!

Hopefully I can get my early 90s Klein back together and have some vintage hardtail fun!

Beautiful bike! I bought a stumpy after graduating college ’93, and recognize the finish on that grey fork! I rode it everywhere – in California, Utah and even Australia. Thanks for sharing the pictures, you brought back some very good memories!
