The Tern BYB (“Bring Your Bike”) is their smallest folding bike yet, coming in at 30% smaller than typical 20″ folding designs. With integrated roller wheels on the rear rack, it’s easy to navigate through train stations and elevators, or even park inside your closet.
Tern BYB ultra compact folding commuter and travel bike
Tern makes a variety of bikes, from folders to e-utility cargo bikes. While they always keep things compact, the new Bring Your Bike (BYB) model shrinks down to new levels, claiming a 30% reduction over competing bikes.
Tern was very tight-lipped with details, and we’re not able to share many of the design details or imagery. We can say that it’s a tri-fold style, with two main hinges helping to fold down to a 35cm x 52cm footprint. There is only one size available, which Tern says will work for almost any adult. Maximum weight for rider + cargo is 230 lbs.
The included rear rack has rollers that help you to move the bike around while not riding, and roll it into small closet spaces.
If you need to store or cover your bike, there are two options. First, the PopCover is a lightweight option for keeping your bike clean, while the Airporter Slim is a full-on travel case to bring your BYB on a plane.
The Tern BYB will be available in-store July 2019. Two build levels are offered – the BYB P8 for $1,295 (Shimano Acera 1×8 speed), and the BYB S11 for $2,495 (Shimano Ultegra 1×11 speed). Complete weights are 31.4 and 27.9 pounds, respectively.
