Back in November, it was big news that the Canfield Brothers were splitting up. Chris would take the Canfield Balance Formula suspension side of the business, while Lance would continue the product side of things with the rebranded Canfield Bikes. Only, at the time, there weren’t any full suspension bikes available. Clearly, the brand has been preparing something very special – the 4th generation Canfield Balance.

And this isn’t just your run of the mill Balance either. No, this is a very special limited edition bike that will be restricted to just 100 bikes.

The mirror-polished frame is paired with beautiful oil slick CBF suspension links which offer 169mm of rear travel meant for a 170-180mm fork. The LE framesets use a CVO Jade X Coil shock in a 230mm x 65mm size with a DVO Diamond D1 Boost 170mm fork.

The 7005 aluminum frame sees Boost 148mm spacing, and offers tire clearance for 27.5″ wheels and tires up to a 35i rim with a 2.8″ tire. Geometry has been updated with a longer reach, 64° head tube angle, and a 75.7° effective seat tube angle.

Up front, there’s a tapered 44/49.6mm headset, and the frame uses a threaded 73mm bottom bracket. Additional frame details include external cable routing, ISCG05 tabs, 180mm post mount brakes, and a 30.9mm internal dropper post.

Each signed and numbered Limited edition will start at… are you ready? The price for a complete build starts at… $3,699. Wait, what? Sure, it’s an aluminum frame with a SRAM NX Eagle drivetrain, but for a limited edition complete build, that sounds almost too good to be true. Better yet – pre-order the bike for the May delivery, and you’ll get it for just $3,399!

Not into the limited edition look, or just won’t get your order in before they’re gone? The good news is that the 2020 Balance will also be offered in standard configurations and in Desert Loam or Deep Space. These bikes start at $100 less than the LE version, and all of the bikes are also available as a Frame+Shock+Fork, or just a Frame+Shock. Availability on all of them is expected in May, 2020.

Seems like a major oversight to showcase a bike with an oil slick link without speccing it with any of the new AXS oil slick components.

We would have loved to build out a dream build and certainly considered those components, but we wanted the factory build to offer value and be more affordable, and in the end chose to showcase an accurate representation of what the customer can buy. I’m sure we’ll see plenty of bling once people start building their own frames, though!
