The Vittoria Reaxcion XC Wheelset gets a complete overhaul for 2020 with a new 28 mm internal width rim profile and an all-new DT Swiss Star-Ratchet hub with 24 POEs and 15 degrees of engagement. The new wheelset is offered with alloy and carbon rim options and is compatible with SRAM XD, Shimano HG and Microspline drivers. Here’s everything we know about the new Reaxcion XC MTB Wheelset.

New Vittoria Reaxcion XC Wheelsets

The Vittoria Reaxcion XC wheelsets see some significant updates for 2020. The most notable of these is the addition of a new hub, made in conjunction with DT Swiss. It uses a star-ratchet system, the free wheeling of which is said to be nothing less than exceptional, making the wheel fast-rolling and almost silent.

The Vittoria Reaxcion XC alloy wheelset rims are made from a 6086 T6 alloy.

Rims are redesigned for 2020, increasing in internal width to 28 mm with an external width of 32 mm for both the carbon and alloy versions, front and rear wheels.

The rims retain an asymmetrical design offset to the drive-side for increased stiffness. The new rim profile is said to give a shallower tire profile with a larger air volume, resulting in more grip.

The Vittoria Reaxcion XC Carbon Wheelset rims are composed of a T700/T800 mix of carbon fibers

As a result of the asymmetry, spoke lengths are equal on each side at 294 mm. Twenty-four Sapim Race stainless-steel straight-pull spokes, butted in profile (2.0/1.7/2.0 mm), lace the rim to the new DT hub.

About that new DT Hub

Vittoria designed the new hub in conjunction with DT Swiss specifically for the new Vittoria Reaxcion Wheelset. It uses DT’s star-ratchet system, based on the DT SWISS 350 hub internals offering 24 points of engagement, engaging every 15 degrees.

Vittoria are offering the complete wheelsets with center-locking hubs only for both the alloy and carbon version. They are compatible with 11s and 12s cassettes, with the use of XD, HG and Microspline drivers.

Please either just state “press release” or actually have a mountain biker review what you’ve written.

“… , engaging every 15 degrees” is simply not a real sentence these days. What were they thinking in their ‘complete overhaul for 2020’? Even if the guys and gals at Vittoria are still running 11-30 cassettes, that’s still a long time before engagement… and yet it’s not mentioned either time this ‘article’ covers the 15 degree engagement.

Even better, find out if the star ratchet can be swapped for other, faster-engaging options from DT Swiss – that would have been helpful. I gotta stop coming here…

Thank you for responding to the question – it is appreciated. But I’d still prefer if Bike Rumor always thought about these things first (as default) and put the information in the article.

15-degree engagement is so out of date, it would be like not having XD or Microspline freehub options – it demands a question. To be honest, I’m curious how their alloy & carbon rims apparently have the same wall thickness, which could be another great question to ask and have answered, but that’s more of a curiosity. 15-deg engagement is just another level.

JS, I agree with you that Bike Rumor needs to include information about upgradable engagement offered through DT Swiss. I do however disagree with you in saying that 15 degrees of engagement is outdated. It is definitely not out of date as degrees of engagement is 100% rider preference. Also, the higher the degree of engagement the less durable the system becomes and requires more frequent routine maintenance and cleaning. With more engagement you also induce more drag when freewheeling unless we are talking about a sprag clutch design. With more engagement comes the discussion of increased pedal kickback during full suspension mountain riding, if you have experienced this you either tolerate the kickback or dislike it which brings me back to the fact that this is 100% rider preference.
