For many countries, mountain bike racing is finally back on the calendar. The Worlds of Downhill, Enduro and XC are all scrambling to squeeze something out of the washout that is 2020. Last weekend saw the first round of the 2020 Enduro World Series kickoff in Zermatt, Switzerland. This time, riders were pinning on a new style of race plate – the EWS-developed Race Labs Race Plate.
Reusable Race Labs Race Plate
Only the Top 20 riders from each category got to add one of these to their setup. Now, you or I can add one to our bikes come race day. The MTB Race Plate is reusable and made from 100% recycled plastic.
Three years in development, the Race Labs Race Plate is designed not only to hold your number board in place securely, it also holds key medical information about the rider for emergencies.
A MEDIC card attaches firmly at the back of the race plate. On it, riders are asked to provide all their medical information so that first responders know exactly where to locate it when they arrive on scene. The MEDIC card can then travel with the injured rider as they are sent off for further treatment.
The Race Plate is specifically designed for use with single crown forks but it is compatible with DH forks too. It will detach from the bar mount cleanly in the event of a crash but a backup lanyard ensures it remains with the bike.
A two bolt ‘soft’ mounting system eliminates damage to your handlebars. On the whole, it sounds like a much more dignified start to a race weekend. No getting your knickers in a twist with cable ties. No unnecessary use of single use plastics. No aesthetic damage to your bars. And, you don’t have to worry about it rattling when you’re giving it full gas.
