Miranda Miller raced Kona’s all-new Process-X at the opening round of the 2020 Enduro World Series in Zermatt, Switzerland. The Process-X has got to be the most versatile bike Kona have ever produced, with its adjustable geometry, adjustable chainstay length, and the ability to run a mullet setup. We met with Kona team mechanic, Mathieu Dupelle, to check out how Miranda Miller sets up her Process-X for EWS racing.

For context, Miranda Miller is 5’9″ tall.

Zermatt is nothing short of infamous for impossibly tight switchback corners. Though the Kona Process-X boasts 161mm of mullet-able travel, Miranda Miller preferred a complete 29″ setup for the Swiss Alpine trails. She did however opt for the shorter chainstay option at 435mm, as opposed to the longer 450mm option. This still left plenty of tire clearance for a 2.4″ Maxxis Minion DHR on the rear.

Miranda ran a 2.5″ Assegai on the front wheel. Both tires were of the double down casing type and the 3C Max Grip Compound. She ran 21 PSI in the front tire and 24 PSI in the rear with a CushCore XC inserts.

Those tires are seated on 30mm internal width M7 Enve carbon rims, the lighter more compliant wheelset than the M9. The rims feature Enve’s Protective Rim Strip – super sensible for the jank of Zermatt. The rims are laced to Chris King ISO B hubs with 72 points of spline engagement.

Miranda Miller runs a 170mm travel 44mm offset RockShox ZEB fork. Those 38mm stanchions are filled with 57 PSI and three volume spacers. For Zermatt, Miranda ran opted for two clicks of high speed compression damping, five clicks of low, and 5 clicks of rebound from the slowest setting.

Rear wheel travel is serviced by a coil shock. Miranda runs a RockShox Super Deluxe Ultimate shock with a 425 lbs spring rate. The specific shock tune is secret but, generically, Mathieu describes it as medium.

In the cockpit, Miranda runs a high rise OneUp Components ovalised carbon bar cut to 760mm and OneUp stem. She runs worn out ODI Elite Pro Lock On grips – Mathieu says they send her fresh ones for racing but she always turns up with really worn down grips anyway. Finally, Miranda has a set of AVS handguards with custom decals.

Awesome bike! I hope they do that sweet red paint job like they did for her 2919 Process. Speaking of which, is the Process X replacing the Process CR 153?

No, the Process 153 is still going strong, but for 2021 is only available in aluminum.

That is true. I had more questions about the carbon version.

Wow ! I really dig the Process X . I’m in need of a new KONA and this looks like my poison.
They way she has this set up is perfect. The fork the tires and on the rear shock im not sure I’d need a coil .
