The 2021 Alchemy Arktos is but a quantum leap in time away from its arrival. We don’t know all there is to know about it yet, but Alchemy have given us another sneak preview of their new 29″ trail bike so we have details on all five configurations right here, including two mullet options!

For 2021, the Alchemy Arktos is far from being a one-trick-pony. With five wheel size/travel combinations, the Arktos fits trail and all-mountain disciplines, even tipping over to enduro. Here are the five different combinations:

  1. 29″ wheels with 130mm Fork and 120mm Rear
  2. 29″ wheels with 150mm Fork and 135mm Rear
  3. 29″ wheels with 170mm Fork and 150mm Rear
  4. Mullet with 150mm Fork and 135mm Rear
  5. Mullet with 170mm Fork and 150mm Rear

It’s not yet clear how the single bike frame adapts to the different configurations. It could involve adjustable chainstays, a flip-chip to account for geometry changes, swapping out the linkage and rear shock. Of course, it may require all of the above, we just don’t know yet.

Likely, it will involve at least switching out the linkage. We saw Alchemy make an alternative linkage specifically for the previous Arktos 29, transforming it into the Cody Kelley race-proven mullet that became the Nine7Five.

What else can we tell you? Alchemy tell us the new bike will have a slacker head angle and a steeper seat angle for 2021. So, expect the HA to be slacker than 65.5° and the SA steeper than 74.5°. Oh, and it’s full carbon.

The bike will also have a low standover for improved maneuverability and for use with long-travel dropper seat posts. It will have two mounting points for water bottles; one on the underside of the downtube and one inside the front triangle directly underneath the rear shock. These are both great places to carry the additional weight – low and close to the bike’s center.

The new Arktos will continue to run their Sine suspension platform.

The limited first batch of the 2021 Alchemy Arktos will be available on January 30th, exclusively via a VIP invite (sign up on the website). No pricing info yet, but it looks like FOX suspension, Industry Nine wheelsets and Shimano drivetrain components will be on the menu.

While options are nice, I’m not sure I want to be building a 120/130 trail bike with 150/170 enduro frame weight.
