Dangerholm drops sub 10kg Hyper Spark XC dream bike w/ stratospheric spec list

Gustav Gullholm, aka Dangerholm, is back with another jaw dropping dream-bike build in the form of the pearl white Hyper Spark. A Scott Spark RC has been the focus of Gustav’s attention for the last two years. Fully integrated stealth cable routing, extremely lightweight components and electronic everything, the Hyper Spark is a dream bike build like no other.

Dangerholm has garnered himself an outrageously large following on social media platforms after building the World’s Lightest Downhill Bike and the World’s Lightest XC bikes. How did he do it? He did something rather unimaginable with a Mora knife…

Gustav took a very sharp knife to the production Spark and Scale frames, stripping them bare of heavy, unnecessary paint jobs. Now, Dangerholm is back again with another dream build of the World Cup-winning carbon Spark RC, named the Hyper Spark. In its lightest iteration, this pearl white full suspension XC bike weighs a svelte 9.78 kg. Let’s see what spec upgrades have allowed it.

Dangerholm’s Hyper Spark runs a Syncros Fraser iC SL carbon bar (cut to 730mm) for its sleek integrated aesthetic that allows for stealth cable management. Cables for brakes, shifters and Fox Live Valve suspension are all routed through the Syncros bar and down through the headset and steerer in a super neat fashion.

Dangerholm even designed his own custom steering stop for the headset to prevent over steering from damaging the internally routed cables. Aesthetics didn’t come before form and function; they went hand in hand. 

As for the rest of the cockpit… Dangerholm left no stone unturned in his search for the highest performing, lightest components out there. Stoppers come in the form of TrickStuff’s Piccola Carbon levers with special couplings for the internal cable routing. They connect to 2-piston calipers clamping Trick Stuff Dachle UL 160mm rotors.

The custom-decal FOX 34 SC Factory fork had an unnecessary item removed; gone is the cable routing tab on the fork lower, helping to reduce the overall weight of the bike.

On the right hand side of the bar, a Zirbel Twister WEO1 electronic grip shifter is integrated into a Syncros foam grip, leaving a super clean cockpit, completely uncluttered without the usual cables, levers and clamps.

Though the Hyper Spark runs a SRAM XX1 AXS Eagle derailleur, Dangerholm has swapped out the pulley for Ceramic Speed’s over-sized pulley wheel system. It runs a Garbaruk 12-speed 10-50T cassette weighing 331g. The 40T narrow wide chain ring is also from Garbaruk while the chain itself is from Ceramic Speed with the UFO coating.

Dangerholm’s Hyper Spark rolls on Syncros one-piece carbon Silverton SL 29″ wheelset fitted with CushCore XC tire inserts and Maxxis Rekon Race 2.3″ tires with EXO casing.

There were three final iterations of Dangerholm’s Hyper Spark, each with its own seat post and saddle combination. The lightest of the three runs a one-piece Berk combo with no rails – that’s the black one pictured above that weighs in at 133g.

The white is the one-piece Berk combo with a Schmolke carbon seat post and rails added for flex and comfort. It weighs 183g. The third and final iteration was the heaviest, running a RockShox Reverb AXS 170mm dropper seat post, with the complete bike weighing in at 10.5 kg.

As usual, Dangerholm has left nothing to chance with the Hyper Spark build. Every single detail has been painstakingly pored over to save on weight without sacrificing performance and while maximising beauty. This is not simply a show room bike. Dangerholm famously shreds his dream bikes pretty hard too.
