It’s hard to think about dropping temperatures when summer is still in full swing, but we all know cooler rides are still tons of fun… if you have the right clothing to ride in! Pearl iZUMi has announced their 2021 Fall clothing line, which is all about breathability and weather protection for tackling the roads and trails in cooler weather.

With items for men, women, MTB, gravel and road riders this collection’s performance pieces were designed to keep you comfortable throughout a ride, without having to take layers on and off. Pearl iZUMi has also released a few new items in their BikeStyle line, featuring versatile garments with casual styling and technical features.

MTB:

Pearl iZUMi Fall 2021, Summit Pro Barrier jacket, mensThe Men’s Summit Pro Barrier Jacket is a lightweight, packable shell that was built for riding hard. The body is made from a stretch woven material that breathes very well and has a DWR treatment to shed moisture. This hooded jacket packs into its own rear pocket, which zips shut and has a hidden strap so you can conveniently carry it on your frame. Other features include a zipped chest pocket, a two-way front zipper, and a dropped tail.

The Summit Pro Barrier Jacket retails for $125. Color options are Cider or Dark Ink, and sizes range from S-XXL.

Pearl iZUMi Fall 2021, Canyon ECOLoft jacket, mens

For cooler weather, the Men’s Canyon ECOLoft Jacket uses ECOLoft ActiVe Insulation (made from recycled materials) which provides warmth but allows excess heat to escape, keeping your body temperature well regulated. A two way zipper allows for quick additional venting, while a tall collar and under-helmet hood help keep cold winds at bay. The jacket has two hand pockets and one chest pocket (all zipped), and Pearl iZUMi’s PI Dry® technology provides long lasting protection from rain, snow, and mud.

The Men’s Canyon ECOLoft Jacket sells for $210. It comes in Phantom or Vintage Denim colors, with S-XXL sizes available.

Pearl iZUMi Fall 2021, Summit Thermal Jersey, womens

For men or women, the Summit Thermal Jersey is a cool weather hooded jersey that’s ideal on its own or as a midlayer when the temperatures drop. This jersey is made from 60g high stretch Transfer Fleece that wicks moisture quickly yet retains warmth. It features a dropped tail for full back coverage, a two way front zipper, and a slim hood that fits under a helmet. Pearl iZUMi clearly likes things to stay secure, so the jersey includes two zippered hand pockets and a zipped chest pocket.

The Summit Thermal Jersey costs $120. Men get Dark Olive/Phantom or Vintage Denim/Phantom colors, and sizes from S-XXL. Women’s color options are Dark Ink and Adobe, with XS-XL sizes available.

Gravel:

Pearl iZUMi Fall 2021, Gravel Gaiters

With input from their sizeable team of brand ambassadors (and some inspiration from trail runners’ scree gaiters), Pearl iZUMi is introducing an ‘industry first’ to mixed terrain riders – Gravel Gaiters. Given the nasty conditions gravel riders or racers often face, the gaiters are an ideal accessory to keep mud, dirt, rocks and sand out of your shoes.

The Gravel Gaiters are made from durable and breathable DWR coated fabric, with a locking rear zipper and Hypalon midfoot strap to keep them in place. The strap was designed to not interfere with your shoe’s tread so you maintain maximum traction through hike-a-bike sections.

The Gravel Gaiters come in S/M and L/XL sizes, in black only. MSRP is $30.

Road:

Pearl iZUMi Fall 2021, Attack AMFib Lite jacket, womensA new offering for male or female road riders is the form-fitting Attack AmFIB Lite Jacket. This jacket features Pearl iZUMi’s AmFIB three layer, windproof and water resistant softshell material on the chest and front panels of the arms, while the back of the body and sleeves are lined with breathable thermal fleece. A DWR treatment shrugs off light rains, and BioViz reflective elements improve rider visibility.

For storage you get a zippered chest pocket, plus three bellowed rear pockets large enough to carry gloves, neck gaiters, or other cold weather pieces. As with their other outer layers, Pearl iZUMi includes a two way front zipper.

The Attack AmFIB Lite Jacket sells for $150. Men’s color options are Phantom or Burnt Rust/Adobe, and sizes range from S-XXL. Women get just one Vintage Denim color, and sizing from XS-XXL.

BikeStyle Line:

Pearl iZUMi Fall 2021, Rove Cycling jean

Perhaps the closest thing to ‘standard issue’ pants in North America, I’d bet the option of having a more cycling-friendly pair of good ol’ jeans holds appeal for many riders. Constructed from a blend of organic cotton, Nylon, and high-stretch Elastane to ensure pedalling comfort, the slim-fitting Rove Cycling Jean offers just that to men and women. Pearl iZUMi has wisely rolled the inseams in the saddle area forward to prevent the irritation normal jeans can cause.

Inside the lower cuffs are BioViz reflective details that can be exposed to increase your visibility, and the right pocket has a zipper to keep small items secure while you ride. Last but not least, the Rove jeans are finished with PI Dry to repel water and resist stains.

The Rove Cycling Jean retails at $100. Men’s sizes go from 28-38, and women’s range from 2-14.

Pearl iZUMi Fall 2021, Rove Cargo leggings

Cargo pants should be able to haul a few things, so the Women’s Rove Cargo Leggings offer two hand pockets, a drop-in hip pocket, and a zippered hip pocket. They also feature a wide, supportive waistband, and snug fitting four-way stretch fabric. For riding functionality, the leggings include abrasion resistant panels, inseams that are rolled forward and away from the saddle area, and a water repelling PI Dry coating.

The Women’s Rove Cargo Leggings cost $110, and come in Dark Ink only. Sizes range from XS-XL.

Pearl iZUMi Fall 2021, Prospect Tech sweatshirt, mens

The Men’s Prospect Tech Sweatshirt is an everyday wearable sweatshirt that’s built from technical fabrics, making for a versatile piece that can be ridden but looks appropriate for casual wear. The Prospect Tech Sweatshirt’s moisture wicking grid fabric is made from 97% recycled materials, and the sleeves include abrasion resistant forearm panels coated with PI Dry. One zippered chest pocket provides storage for small items or credit/debit cards.

MSRP for the Men’s Prospect Tech Sweatshirt is $110. It is available in one Dark Ink/Toffee color, in S-XXL sizes.

Finally, the Women’s Prospect Tech Hoodie offers ladies a technical yet casual option Pearl iZUMi describes as “a hoodie you can live in.” Made from the same 97% recycled quick-wicking grid fabric as the men’s version above, the ladies hoodie gets the abrasion resistant, PI Dry treated forearm panels as well. It differentiates itself with a cowl neck and tailored three-piece hood. The front pouch provides two zippered hand pockets.

The Women’s Prospect Tech Hoodie costs $120. It comes in Dark Ink only, with sizes ranging from XS-XL.

While I’m happy to see Pearl Izumi introduce their Gravel Gaiter, they are definitely not an “industry first”. Giro had the Alpineduro Gaiter available a few years ago, but you can’t get them for love or money these days. Mine are on their last legs, so Pearl Izumi’s timing is welcome.

Wish Pearl still made the Ultra Gaiter. It was the best mid gaiter available for running/cycling and mine are showing their age now.
