Apart from the full-squish, all-carbon, KOM-at-all-costs crowd, there is a growing segment of riders who just want to get away. Load everything up on your bike, head out of town, and camp out under the stars. For that crowd, bikes like the new Tumbleweed Stargazer are just the ticket.

tumbleweed stargazer frame and fork

Starting with a heat-treated multi-butted chromoly steel frame with gussets at the headtube and a CNC machined chainstay yoke, Tumbleweed’s second bike is built just as burly as their first. Only this time, it’s meant for drop bars and a standard derailleur.

tumbleweed complete

Built with clearance for 29 x 2.5 or 27.5 x 3.0″ tires, the Stargazer offers different options depending on your idea of the perfect bikepacking set up. Designed around Boost 148mm spacing, this frame accepts a standard rear derailleur with a 1x specific build.

flat mount brake

You’ll also find flat mount disc brakes with the ability to run 160 or 180mm rotors, front and rear.

Stargazer headtube

The front end features a 44mm head tube with a ZS44/EC44 headset capable of running straight or tapered steerers. All cabling is kept external with the exception of an internal dropper post routing provision.

loaded bike packing bike

Naturally, this bike is meant for loaded riding which means lots and lots of mounts. You’ll find rear rack mounts, upper and lower fork rack mounts, fender mounts, three bottle mounts on the frame triangle, triple bottole cage mounts on the fork legs, and internal dynamo wiring as well.

Tumbleweed Stargazer geometry

Stargazers will be offered in five sizes and in two colors, and in both complete bikes or frame and fork packages. The complete bike will include a SRAM Rival/SRAM GX Eagle drivetrain and mechanical Tektro MD-c550 disc brakes for $3875. The frame and fork are priced at $1,350, and both are currently available as a pre-order only with bikes expected to ship around December 2021. Complete bikes require a $2,000 deposit, while frame and fork requires the full $1,350.
