Ryder Innovation, known for their Slug Plug tubeless repair kit and Nutcracker tool, has turned their attention to the messy affair of drivetrain maintenance. We spotted the Ryder Innovation Luberetta at EuroBike, a chain lube applicator that helps you apply chain lube exactly how the multitude of manufacturers recommend you do; one roller at a time. Let’s face it, most of us don’t have the time or, more accurately, the patience for that, so the Luberetta aims to make the process quick and painless.

Ryder Innovations Luberetta

What is it? A patented silicone dispenser and chain guide attached to a lube canister that can be filled with up to 15ml of your favorite chain lube. You simply position the chain guide portion of the applicator onto the lower chain and squeeze the applicator to dispense lubricant as you back pedal to feed the chain through the applicator. As each roller passes through the chain guide, the silicone dispenser puts one drop of lube on each roller.

That’s the theory, anyway. Of course, how hard you squeeze, and the viscosity of the lube you use, will determine just how much lube each roller gets. The idea is that the Luberetta applicator makes the process less messy and reduces waste. I guess I can see how that works; I usually just hover the lube bottle above the chain, squeezing as I back pedal, dropping one drop onto each roller as I go. I will occasionally miss a roller though, and end up with some lube on the floor, gone to waste. So yeah, I can see the potential here for more economical use of chain lube, which can be pretty expensive.

The inside face of the Luberetta chain guide portion gets fins, which are said to help remove grime from the outer plates of the chain. A pin inside the cap prevents the dispenser clogging up with lube. If it does clog anyway, say if you’ve left the cap off for a period of time, you can pop it off easily, wash it with degreaser, then pop it back on again.

Pricing & Availability

  1. Crash Bandicoot on

If accurately dripping a small amount of lube on each link is this much of a hassle then I’d recommend using a lube with better endurance. I get 400+ miles on Dumonde Tech and the chain is extremely clean. Takes all of 5 minutes every two weeks. Using a product like this would lead to a significant overuse of the lube and end up making the chain a big mess

  2. Cam on

Would be great if you bought lube in bulk and needed an applicator. Saves plastic. Seems too frivolous outside of a high volume shop context though.

  3. TimE on

This thing costs like $4.50. and since I make my own lube i now also have a handy storage bottle and applicator that works really well
