Italian saddle manufacturers, Selle Repente, have released a new carbon rail version of the Quasar on- and off-road saddle. Swapping out steel rails for carbon drops weight to a claimed 130g, around 40g lighter than the original, maintaining the 260mm x 142mm dimensions and flat-top design.

The Selle Repente Quasar CR swaps out steel rails for carbon to please the weight weenies of the road and gravel cycling worlds. The UD Carbon Fiber T700 7×9 mm rails shave 40g off the weight of this 260mm saddle, but that’s not the only piece of carbon real estate to be seen.
The Quasar CR, like its steel counterpart, gets the PA12 shell. That’s an industrial strength nylon polymer that is both abrasion and chemical resistant, and has extremely low moisture absorption properties. Within that structure, Selle Repente make use of their proprietary long carbon fibre technology. Instead of plain carbon fibre “chops”, longer carbon fibers are added to the resin which, thanks to a special injection process, are arranged to match the longitudinal flow of the material, until they form a sort of weave that increases the strength of the structure. Selle Repente’s in-house testing showed this technology minimizes the risk of deformation or collapse of the shell.
The flat-top design a large central opening for relieving pressure in the perineal area. with a shape optimized to be comfortable without the need for thick layers of padding. The water-based PU microfibre cover has an anti-slip function, so the rider can easily remain within the most comfortable pedaling position over the course of a long ride. Selle Repente tell s us the shape of the front,tapered at the tip, has been modeled to allow for an easy transition from a seated position to the sprinting position and back.
