AMS Introduces the Om, the lightest stem in its class

AMS Om Stem 45 three quarter leftThe new OM stem from All Mountain Style was named after an American DR.,  who was obsessed with measuring the weight of the soul. After a series of tests, he eventually came to the conclusion that the human soul weighed 21 g, which is coincidentally, one hundred grams less than the new AMS Stem.

The OM is extensively CNC machined from a block of 6082 T6 aluminum, and it’s weight of 121 g is claimed to be a new benchmark for trail/enduro/dh segment.

AMS Om Stem 45 three quarter rightThe 45 mm length is optimized to work with the longer top tube lengths found on modern 27.5″ and 29″ bikes, and has an extremely short 30mm stack height.

A 55 mm wide clamping area improves torsional rigidity, and reduces stress on handlebars. The stem is currently available only for 1 1/8″ steers, and 31.8 mm.

Retail is €135.00 EUR, and they’re available now on the AMS website.

Good looking stem, but I’m not sure beating the Syncros FRIC by 1 gram and overshooting the Loaded AMXC Shorty by 22 grams is a “new benchmark.” Granted, the Shorty may not be rated for extreme stuff…but still, let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

While the 50mm version of the KORE stem is 160g, the 35mm is 126g. They are also priced at $60 instead of $200. Seems like a more attractive option to me…

I really don’t get the correlation between Dr. McDougal’s “21 Grams” research and a 121 gram stem… unless of course the claim that the stem weighs 121 grams is founded on a pile of unscientific mystical bulls**t.

Nice looking stem but my Twenty6 F 1.2 Stem in 50mm weighs 119g and cost $110us.

That is a pretty bit of hardware. Maybe I am over-thinking it a bit, but saving grams in my stem for an all mountain application would not be how I’d want to save weight. That baby goes and things go bad real quick.

Point one split second 50mm is lighter considering it has the top cap built onto it, and just looks more solid. Not to mention its built in the USA and costs 70 bucks less.

Yeah that’s pretty light, but not light for a trail/AM stem. My 40mm Syntace Megaforce 2 weighs 109g with the included titanium bolts.

I still prefer my Point One Racing split second 50 at 122g including hardware and top cap.

why does it say torque all screws?? there are no screws.
