Assos is no stranger to combining fashion with function. Known as a premium Swiss cycling apparel company, Assos recently collaborated with the New York-based architect-turned-menswear designer to create four limited edition jerseys. Each jersey is meant to embody ASSOS’s ethos of precision and function, with a nod to Switzerland’s striking mountain landscape.
Fernandez started in modern skyscraper architecture and then shifted to designing upscale menswear fashion, emphasizing what he calls a “tech-tailored” approach in which function guides form.
In an interview with ASSOS on their site, Fernandez explains his interest in the collaboration:
“As a brand, ASSOS embodies everything that I love about function and fashion because they’ve melted Swiss precision and performance into one. Coming with such a heritage at the cutting edge of cycling, it was certainly a project that I’ve enjoyed.”
The Quartz SS jersey, with its gradient colors and angular shapes, draws a clean line between Fernandez’s background in modern skyscraper architecture and Switzerland’s arresting mountain landscape.
According to Fernandez, the minimal geometric blocking of the Anthracite jersey “represents the clinical precision” of the Swiss.
The Quartz and Anthracite jerseys each come in two distinct colorways and will be available worldwide in limited numbers through assos.com and ASSOS dealers.
