Super light, very adjustable and available in colors to match Red, Force and Rival. Cartridge pads, inline barrel adjusters and can be run wide or narrow. $90 to $100 per wheel, 125g per wheel.
UPDATE: Yep, as we suspected, these are the production-ready version of the prototypes we spied at Interbike, where we say the Zephyr Gray color scheme that’ll match the Red-level component group. The only real visible difference is the absence of the plastic cable guide piece in the bottom of the central triangle pull, and this time we’ve got photos of them on a bike…which you can see right after the break…
The Avid Shorty Ultimates can be run wide for better modulation and mud clearance…
…or narrow for more power.
One side has a barrel adjuster, making fine tuning much easier than having to loosen and tighten a pinch bolt while trying to hold the brakes in place with your magical third hand. The beauty of the design is that it can use the end of the brake cable that you’re cutting off and would normally throw away. Just feed it through the barrel adjuster…
…go through the triangle then clamp it into the other side.
They have adjustable spring tension, come with SwissStop pads (you get black for Aluminum rims, Yellow for carbon…which makes this demo bike a bit of a conundrum).
