BH’s new iLynx Trail carbon eMTB brings longer travel to their lightweight iLynx e-bike platform, now with pedal-assist from a lighter, more compact new motor. Based on the same 2EXMAG motor upgrade of their Core Carbon road & gravel e-bikes, the new BH iLynx Trail gets boosted to 150mm of trail-taming travel with more playful, more capable geometry tweaks, as well.
2022 BH iLynx Trail lightweight carbon all-mountain eMTB
Introduced just at the start of 2021, BH’s light carbon iLynx Race eMTB reimagined an e-bike version of their lightweight Lynx EVO cross-country marathon mountain bike platform, with either 100mm or 120mm of travel, powered by their own compact motor. Now the iLynx Trail is ready for more technical all-mountain riding, with more travel, more progressive geometry, and an even lighter frame.
More capable all-mountain trail geometry
The new e-bike shares the same Split-Pivot single-pivot suspension design with a linkage-driven shock. Thanks to a more compact motor, it even has shorter 451mm chainstays than the shorter travel eMTBs. BH says the geometry of the iLynx Trail is adapted/inherited from their trail bikes, with a slack 66° headtube, steeper 75.5° seattube, and longer reach than the shorter travel iLynx Race models.
Tech details
The iLynx Trail is powered by BH’s own new 2EXMAG motor, which puts out the same 250W, 65Nm pedal-assist support, but does so in a smaller form factor that’s also 100g lighter than before.
At 2.1kg for the new motor, claimed assist range with the built-in 540Wh battery is 130km of trail riding, plus the option to extend by another 45km with BH’s external 180Wh XPro bottle battery. The same powertrain as in the new Core Carbon dropbar e-bikes, BH says the new motor delivers a smoother, more natural & progressive pedal-assist, adding up to 3x the power you put into the pedals, with no noticeable drag once you exceed the 25km/hr assist limit.
The e-bike’s pedal-assist modes are controlled via BH’s new small iRemote switch with simple LED mode & battery level indicators.
It also connects to Garmin GPS computers as well for those who want more detail from a system display.
While the motor is lighter than in the shorter iLynx Race models, the HCIM carbon frame with “Ballistic” fiber reinforcement is also lighter. Down 75g from the iLynx Race, the 1975g iLynx Trail frameset (w/o motor or battery) is within tens of grams of the non-e-bike Lynxes.
The new frame gets full-internal routing with 150° Acros BlockLock steering stop, BH’s own FIT mini-tool with CO2 hidden in the steerer tube, a hidden wedge-style seatpost clamp for the dropper post, and a mini chain guide. The e-bike gets Super Boost spacing, a UDH replaceable hanger, and has room for 29 x 2.6″ tires.
