On the buffet of Levo eMTBs, you now have something for every taste (and budget). It started with the full range of carbon-framed Levo 4 models, followed by the Levo 4 Alloy. Both of those have 150mm rear travel with 160mm forks, designed for big trails.

Then the Levo R dropped last month, shortening the suspension to 130mm out back and 140mm up front. Whether you called it “Rally” or “Race” tuning, they come with faster-rolling full 29er wheels on all but the smallest size (which gets mixed 29/27.5 wheels, same as all sizes of the long-travel Levo models). Now, there’s also an alloy version, saving some coin without giving up any of the tech. Or power.

The new Specialized Turbo Levo R Alloy gets a shapely M5 alloy frame, with the same boosted Turbo 3.1 motors (up to 810W and 105Nm) and 840Wh battery. Unlike earlier alloy base models, this one IS compatible with the optional range extender battery pack, giving you up to five hours of ride time.

It also gets the adjustable geometry, GENIE rear shock (which debuted with the Stumpjumper, deep dive here), and SWAT in-frame storage that’s uniquely tucked in from the side, inside the battery compartment.

Spec is decent, too, with a Fox 36 SL Performance GRIP fork, GENIE Fox FLOAT Performance shock, SRAM Eagle 90 mechanical shifting, and SRAM Motive Bronze brakes with 200mm rotors.

It’s rolling on base Specialized alloy wheels with DT Swiss Elemental spokes and Specialized’s excellent 2.4″ Purgatory GRID tires. The rest is the expected house brand alloy cockpit bits and an X-Fusion Manic dropper post.

Specialized isn’t making specific weight claims, but says the “R” versions are generally about 2.6kg (5.73lbs) lighter than a comparable Levo 4.

MSRP is $7,200, and the range extender battery is $700, plus you’ll need a $60 cable to connect it. Available now in six sizes and two colors – Satin East Sierras (tan) and Satin Metallic Deep Marine.
