Photo submitted by Pierre, “This picture is taken in Hong-Kong , while I prepared to race the French Divide. I ride on the shoulder of the highest peak in Hong Kong (Tai Mo Shan) and in the Background, we see Shenzhen, with its High Rise buildings, the closest city from mainland China at the doorstep of HKG ( Buidings are actually build along the border between China and Hong Kong ). I like the contrast here, as we can enjoy the nature HKG has still to offer, in comparison with the Mainland China which is overpopulated just right across the border.”

We always love seeing photos from where you are riding and are happy to share them with our readers around the world here on the Pic Of The Day. Send in your pics with a brief description here.

Nice dose of smug with the Mainland China dig. Maybe Pierre should know that HK comes in at #4 on the most densely populated countries in the world. China is #80, right in between Tonga and Kiribati.
For reference, France is #98, and USA is #179.

In fairness to Pierre, HK has a lot of wild parks and natural areas. The density of the built areas is very high, but most of HK is actually green due to the difficulty of building on hills. The percentage of developed land is very low – surprisingly so. You can go for a hike up a steep hill that seems like complete wilderness, and yet be only a few hundred metres from highrise buildings.
