Photo submitted by Joe Rauch, “Mendocino Pass in September, as four riders attempted to do Reno 2 Cino, a 330-ish mile, 20,000-ish feet of climbing on mostly gravel ride across the width of California from Reno to Mendocino. The snow squall was a total shock after two-plus hours of increasingly cold rain as the group climbed out of the Central Valley on a 25-mile dirt fire road. At the summit they ate lunch in the support truck to keep from freezing. One rider burned through an entire set of disc brake pads on the descent.”
