Photo submitted by Michael Raider, “We rode to the Ellwood, CA (north of Santa Barbara) site of a Japanese attack during WWII. The sign says that submarine I-17 shelled the oil field on this site on February 23, 1942 in the first foreign attack on the U.S. mainland since the War of 1812.”
