This rolled in with the disclaimer – Warning: This comes with baggage… but it’s the best kinda baggage. Blackburn has put together a mini featurette documentary on a history of traveling the world by bike. It takes you from old boneshakers to modern bikepacking, from weekend trips to people riding crazy-long distances with stuff strapped to their bikes, making us re-evaluate some priorities along the way. Available free online for a limited time, the 18 minute long Comes with Baggage video would be a bit much to commit to, but come on… it’s Friday afternoon and you probably have a little more time stuck at the office, then it’s the weekend…

Comes With Baggage is more than just the advertorial you kind of expect when you se a ‘history of…’ produced by a company with a vested interest in the story itself, and it’s future. Instead, the featurette is a fun look at traveling by bike in the Americas over the last several decades. It’s a bit inspiring, making it seem like maybe a good idea to sell the house and car and live out a set of panniers on the open road.

Blackburn mixes together archive touring footage with new shooting of modern bikepackers and then adds on interviews with key bike traveling innovators and more to give a broad look at the adventures. It gives a good glimpse of both where the bike has taken those before us, and when it can lead both your mind and body.

possibly the best justification for why I have a basement full of bikes and “refuse to grow up”. Kudos, Blackburn. Thank you.
