Cane Creek makes all kinds of components for bicycles, including some of the most lust-worthy cranks on the market, the eeWings. For the past several years, however, existing owners and riders upgrading to eeWings needed to source their chainrings from other brands. That all changed yesterday, when Cane Creek announced the addition of mountain and gravel eeWings chainrings to its growing component lineup.

The new Cane Creek chainrings are direct mount and made specifically to fit the latest eeWings with the 8-bolt interface. They are CNC-machined from 7075 aluminum with a narrow-wide tooth design to work with both SRAM and Shimano’s latest mountain and gravel drivetrains. At present, Cane Creek is making two sizes for mountain bikes as well as four sizes for gravel. All of the new chainrings come in black and are intended for use on 1x drivetrains only.

Mountain Chainrings

Cane Creek’s mountain bike options are 30 or 32-tooth, both of which come in 0 and 3 mm offset options to produce 55 and 52 mm chainlines, respectively. The 30-tooth mountain chainring weighs a claimed 58 grams.

Gravel Chainrings

The gravel chainrings come in 38, 40, 42, and 44 tooth sizes, with a 3 mm offset to produce a 47 mm chainline. The 40-tooth gravel chainring weighs a claimed 106 grams.

Chain Compatibility

According to Cane Creek, the new rings are compatible with SRAM T-Type and Eagle 12-speed and 13-speed chains. They are also intended to work with Shimano Linkglide and Hyperglide+ 11-speed and 12-speed chains.

Cane Creek eeWings Chainrings: Pricing and Availability

These new chainrings cost $100 and are available now at select retailers and distributors or on the Cane Creek website. According to the brand, customers who buy a set of the latest eeWings (8-bolt) will receive the chainring of their choice free of charge.

They are using the 8-bolt mounting system introduced by SRAM in 2018.

So there’s nothing against mounting an 8-Bolt Quarq or SRAM Powermeter Spider to these?

I’m being pedantic here, but a screw is rotated, while a bolt is held fast as a nut is rotated. Just like alloy doesn’t mean what you think it means, and make and sell are two different things.

Journalism isn’t that hard, guys.

Not to mention SRAM, which markets it as an “8-Bolt Interface“. 8-screw interface just doesn’t have the same ring to it.
