Cane Creek Wants Your Crazy Bike Part Ideas

machined bike part being made at cane creek components.

Got an idea for a new component? A better mousetrap than what’s already out there? A hack for improving your bike’s performance? Or even just a new color or variation of an existing product that you really want for your bike?

And more importantly, is this something you’re never going to get around to yourself?

Be honest, and then head over to Cane Creek’s Product Idea & Request Form and let them know what you’re thinking. There’s probably no royalties or anything, but if seeing your pie-in-the-sky dream product out in the real world, benefitting riders everywhere, is payment enough, here’s your chance.

Now, not to burst your bubble, but around the Bikerumor water cooler, we, too, come up with a lot of “good” ideas. And, quite often, the engineers at the brands humor us, then let us know they’re already thinking two (or twenty) steps beyond that. But you never know, and now you have somewhere better than the comments section to post your ideas.

The form link opens an image…

Personally, I’d like something like HOPP RD-M9000 or Lightweight carbon RD with a dual-Ti spring setup like new XTR, enough range for ~9-45 and weight in 130g range. To be used with NXS or similar.

Should be fixed now. It appears the final edit didn’t save.

So they want free ideas? At least offer some free merch or .01¢ per item sold or something.

Yeah, this is a bad look on a brand that I’ve only had good things to say about until now.

As opposed to them not asking customer’s for product feedback? Honestly I wish more companies would do this and listen to their customers, ask what they really want, and value what customers think… Not sure how a company wanting product feedback from riders is a negative?

Personally none, but seems weird for a company to be asking for them.

I think it’s mostly just supposed to be a fun way to interact with customers and potential customers.

Fun way to get valuable intellectual property for free, is more like it.

I wish they’d create the invert gravel fork with cargo mounts

It would be super cool if they would do service work on their own products (which they stopped doing last year).

I’ll try and respond to the various comments and questions in one go. Yeah, the idea was to publicly ask for ways that Cane Creek could do a better job making products riders love. I’d love for Ducati to ask me want I want in a Monster! And we’ve actually paid millions over the years to people that brought us good ideas. It’s not 130g, but I’m a fan of Calendrille’s Vivo RDs and have an XC Air on order. We did develop a disc brake a few years ago, and it had comparable modulation and power to the best out there. But we could not achieve the one feature that we thought would merit bringing it to market. So we shelved it. Unfortunately we had to suspend our in-house suspension service because the massive and unprecedented bicycle industry downturn and tariffs have hit us hard, necessitating painful cuts. We do have dozens of authorized service centers around the world that do a great job. We recently introduced cargo mounts for the Invert following rider requests. I personally lament the death of premium mechanical groups. I actually rode a mechanical Dura Ace bike yesterday. Honestly, the patent minefield is too much for Cane Creek to navigate. Fan or not, thanks for chiming in.
