The fat-tired Canyon Grizl looks to be one of the first gravel bikes to get transformed for bigger off-road adventure & bikepacking exploration with SRAM’s complete XPLR gravel group.
Decked out in the complete new 1×12 wireless Force XPLR eTap AXS groupset, and the option to stick with the standard carbon fork or the new short travel RockShox Rudy Ultimate suspension fork, the carbon Grizl CF SLX 8 eTap may be your first chance to get on the new XPLR kit…
Canyon Grizl CF SLX 8 eTap transforms with SRAM XPLR
Launched just this spring, the carbon Canyon Grizl already opened up more adventure over their original gravel Grail with big 50mm tire clearance, more cage mounts & a custom-designed set of Apidura bikepacking bags. Now in addition to mechanical 1×13 Ekar and 1x & 2x GRX builds, SRAM options finally come with the all-new Force XPLR AXS family.
You can read the full details on our SRAM XPLR launch coverage, but suffice it to say it takes the best of current wireless SRAM 1x groups and steps it up a notch for more refined gravel riding – take for example the new gearing spreads with tight spacing on the higher gears for good on-road cadence steps and bigger steps at the low end when you need easy bailout gears to get up steep off-road climbs.
Grizl XPLR – Pricing, options & availability
Two complete XPLR builds are available, both with the same wireless Force XPLR eTap AXS gravel drivetrain. The $6000 Canyon Grizl CF SLX 8 eTap sticks with the carbon Grizl frame & fork, swapping in the new 1×12 SRAM Force XPLR AXS drivetrain, and finished off with a set of carbon DT Swiss GRC 1400 wheels.
The $6500 / 5000€ Canyon Grizl CF SLX 8 eTap Suspension throws in the 30mm travel, gravel-specific RockShox Rudy Ultimate with RS’s lightest ever Charger Race Day damper & SoloAir spring inside. Add on a set of Reynolds AR carbon wheels, plus the bump-eating VCLS seatpost to smooth out the rear end.
The rigid bike is slated to be available within the next few weeks (likely in limited numbers), while the version with the new RockShox Rudy fork will ship later in 2021 around October. And maybe a bit later than that for US customers.
